How to Compare AI Model Token Pricing in 2026 (Free Tool)

May 21, 2026 · 5 min read

GPT-5, Claude Sonnet 4.5, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Llama, DeepSeek — every provider prices tokens differently. AgentVet's free Token Pricing comparison tool shows input, output, context, and estimated cost for 400+ models side by side.

If you're building with AI in 2026, your single biggest variable cost is tokens. And the prices are all over the map — GPT-5 charges one rate, Claude Sonnet 4.5 another, Gemini 2.5 Pro another, and a long tail of open-source models on providers like Groq, Together, and Fireworks charge cents on the dollar (or nothing at all).

To make this easier, we built a free, always-updated Token Pricing comparison tool — covering 400+ models from every major provider in one searchable, sortable view.

What the Tool Shows

For every model in the directory, you get:

Free models are tagged with a green "Free" badge so they're impossible to miss.

Estimating Your Real Cost

The biggest mistake people make when comparing models is reading per-1M-token prices in isolation. A model that's "cheaper per token" can be more expensive in practice if it's verbose or has a higher output rate.

The Token Pricing tool fixes this with two inputs at the top of the page:

Set them to match your actual workload (say, 10M input + 2M output per month) and the EST. COST column instantly recalculates for every model. Sort ascending and you have a ranked list from cheapest to most expensive for your specific use case.

How to Use It Step by Step

  1. Go to agentvet.ai/token-pricing
  2. Enter your expected input and output token volumes (in millions)
  3. Optionally pick a provider (e.g. only Anthropic, only Google)
  4. Optionally pick a specific model to highlight
  5. Click any column header — EST. COST, INPUT, OUTPUT, CONTEXT — to sort
  6. Read off the model that hits your sweet spot on price and context window

Why Context Window Matters as Much as Price

The context window is the maximum number of tokens — prompt + response combined — a model can process in a single request. It's the most underrated number on a pricing comparison page.

A cheap model with a 32K window can become expensive fast if you have to chunk and re-prompt to fit your data. A pricier model with a 1M window may end up cheaper and better. The tool shows context size for every model so you can make that trade-off explicitly.

Free Models: When Are They Good Enough?

Several providers serve open-weights models (Llama, Mistral, DeepSeek variants, Gemma) at $0 per token. These are genuinely useful for:

On the Token Pricing page, sort by cost ascending and every free model appears at the top with a green "Free" badge. We don't rank or recommend — we just show the prices honestly so you can decide.

Why We Built This

Most pricing pages live on vendor sites, where you only see one provider's models. Comparison blogs go stale within weeks because pricing changes constantly. We wanted a single, neutral, always-current view that an engineer, founder, or finance lead can open mid-meeting and answer "what would this cost on X?" in 5 seconds.

That's all this tool does. No login. No paywall. No upsell. It pulls from a live pricing dataset so what you see is what the providers are charging today.

Pair It With Real Performance Data

Price tells you what a model costs. It doesn't tell you whether it'll actually do the job. Pair the Token Pricing tool with:

A model that's 10x cheaper but scores 4/10 on accuracy isn't a deal. The combination of price, reviews, and independent benchmarks is how you actually pick the right model for the job.
